I’m thrilled to announce my latest project - The City Sweet Tooth!
It’s a column in comic strip format that will feature profiles of New York City’s finest pastry shops, bakeries, cafes, and unique treats. One of the best things about living in New York is the availability of one of a kind (sometimes legendary) desserts and snacks. The column will cover places both new and old, famous and less well-known. Those who know me know I love New York and I love sweets, so this a dream project!
The strip is on The L Magazine’s website and a shorter version is in today’s issue of the print magazine available for free all over New York City. Just look for the little orange boxes with a letter L on on it, it’s “The Free Issue”.
See the comic here:

by the way: www.citysweettooth.com is under construction and on the way!

Last night I went out and saw the Squeezebox movie at the Tribeca Film Fest. Squeezebox was a pansexual weekly rock and roll party with great punky drag queens and go-go dancers that I went to regularly for several years at the turn of this century. The party ended in 2001 and and since then this documentary has been in production. Anyway, finally seeing it was so much fun and it was wonderful to share with my friends who had experienced the great times there with me. I definitely felt sentimental watching it and happy too. The other cool thing was that so many of the people in the movie were in the audience and the after-party with us and they were all people we used to dance with weekly. People like Michael Schmidt, Mistress Formika, Miss Guy, Lily of the Valley, Jayne County, Deborah Harry, Justin Bond, Michael T, John Cameron Mitchell, Theo, Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black and so many more were all there and performed at the after-party. We got comped in, we used to always get comped at Squeezebox when it was going, it’s nice to be treated as a “regular” even at a party that’s been gone for 7 years! It was so great to see Debbie Harry, she sang X Offender (my fave Blondie song) and looked amazing in a tight pink dress). I will love her and all of these performers forever! Definitely a sentimental time, but so much fun. I also happen to be in the movie for about 3 seconds of footage total and there is a great segment with my friend Mr. Tim (a wonderful friendship which I owe to Squeezebox) showing the Squeezebox comic which I did the cover for. So i felt part of the “history” as it were. I’m not sure how people who weren’t a part of it will feel about the movie, but I enjoyed it.

The NY Comicon was so great! While I didn’t have a table, I participated by moderating the amazing Women In Comics panel on Friday. It had the amazing talents of Karen Green, Gail Simone, Becky Cloonan, Shelly Bond, Jennifer Grunwald, and Heidi MacDonald. That is pretty much a dream line-up and we had a packed room. As moderator I got to plan the questions with the help of Marion Vitus, who organized the whole thing for Friends of Lulu and it was just such a great experience! Probably the best Women in Comics panel I’ve been involved with and I think a lot of attendees would agree. Then Saturday I signed at the FOL booth and Sunday I was a panelist on Sticky Pages, a gay panel moderated by the ever talented Ivan Velez Jr. There were a LOT of amazing panelists on that one (including Joan Hilty, Ariel Schrag, Jose Villarubia, Phil Jimenez, Tim Fish, Jennifer Camper, and more) and everybody was great, that one was also packed. I think the state of comics is looking pretty great when these diversity focused panels are getting such a great crowd response at a mainstream convention like this. The big news of the con for us was the debut of Saltwater Taffy, Matt’s gorgeous new book from Oni. On a side note, this is the first time I saw Billy’s Bakery set up at Javits Center and I was so happy! They make some of my fave NY cupcakes ^_^
