I’m contributing a story to this anthology : Aftershock: Artists Respond to Disaster in Japan. Right now, it has a Kickstarter page to raise printing costs. Please consider donating! It’s a worthy project. The video at the link explains it all.

Here’s a new Kitty Sweet Tooth adventure about Chinatown! I want to do some more with her adventures all over the place. If you’re looking for the young coconuts, they’re sometimes at a vendor on Canal St. near Mott St. For the soup dumplings you can get them at Joe’s Shanghai, Joe’s Ginger, or Shanghai Asian Manor (and several other places). She finishes up at Chinatown Ice Cream Factory! Their Green Tea ice cream is my favorite.

If you don’t know Drawing Words & Writing Pictures, it’s an amazing book and website by Jessica Abel and Matt Madden about comics craft which is also a great textbook. I found it indispensable for teaching college classes on comics writing, that’s for sure! I was invited to write a post for their site about my experiences with manga and it’s impact on my work. If you’ve ever wondered about the details of my involvement with manga and Japan, and exhibiting at a comics show there, here’s your chance to read all about it. Please check it out!

I’m thrilled to announce that Spanish publisher Ediciones Kraken (an imprint of Ediciones Jaguar and Spanish home to Judge Dredd and Alan Moore and Jose Villarrubia’s masterpiece, The Mirror of Love) will be publishing the Spanish edition of Dolltopia! It’s expected to be out Spring 2012 and look out for an appearance or two from me in Spain to coincide with the release!

On April 12th I received the International Manga Award for Dolltopia! It was at a small ceremony and dinner with Deputy Consul General Yasuhisa Kawamura and Consul Masakazu Kigure. What a great experience! It was so interesting to spend time with diplomats and share our thoughts on manga being a worldwide culture, we also discussed how artists can help with the current crisis in Japan. It was wonderful and I feel incredibly honored. Photo above by Matt Loux.

Recently I was included in this nice write-up on food and illustration from Brazil’s leading paper, Folha de S.Paulo, the article is by Diogo Gomez, and great photography by Gilberto Tadday! We did the photo shoot at La Bergamote, a lovely French pastry place in Chelsea!

This is a poem by my friend, cartoonist Yuuko Koyama about her experience in Japan right now. She is in the Tokyo area, she and her family are doing OK. Please consider donating to Doctors Without Borders at this link or other charities listed here.
I’m living among the machines which I cannot repair
I’m living in the world which I cannot measure
The day I’m relieved to hear my job is stable for the next six months
The big Tsunami comes just 30 minutes later
But now, I’m waiting for a hot soy latte at a warm counter.
