MOCCA Art Fest was fun as usual, I debuted Dolltopia 2 and it had a very good response! I also presented the Lulu of the Year Award (congrats to winner Martina Fugazzotto) at the Lulu Awards which was fun and well attended. Great job Marion! I have a few pics from the event here:
Modeling my glam outfit! (written up in ComicMix here)
With the lovely ladies Rachel Nabors and Heather Bradley of gURL.com
Sorry, not too many photos were taken (by me anyay) but I got some cool new books! Goddess of War, Freddie and Me, and Chiggers were the big purchases I made and Ivy and The Hookah Girl are among the cool zines I got. Also, meeting Cecil Castellucci was a highlight. Also got to meet Rachel from Cupcakes Take the Cake and Whitney Matheson of Pop Candy fame, lots of cool bloggers about! I have a huge pile to read now!

Marion Vitus posted a great blog on the Friends of Lulu website about the panel I moderated. It was fun and educational! Read the run-down here.
The NY Comicon was so great! While I didn’t have a table, I participated by moderating the amazing Women In Comics panel on Friday. It had the amazing talents of Karen Green, Gail Simone, Becky Cloonan, Shelly Bond, Jennifer Grunwald, and Heidi MacDonald. That is pretty much a dream line-up and we had a packed room. As moderator I got to plan the questions with the help of Marion Vitus, who organized the whole thing for Friends of Lulu and it was just such a great experience! Probably the best Women in Comics panel I’ve been involved with and I think a lot of attendees would agree. Then Saturday I signed at the FOL booth and Sunday I was a panelist on Sticky Pages, a gay panel moderated by the ever talented Ivan Velez Jr. There were a LOT of amazing panelists on that one (including Joan Hilty, Ariel Schrag, Jose Villarubia, Phil Jimenez, Tim Fish, Jennifer Camper, and more) and everybody was great, that one was also packed. I think the state of comics is looking pretty great when these diversity focused panels are getting such a great crowd response at a mainstream convention like this. The big news of the con for us was the debut of Saltwater Taffy, Matt’s gorgeous new book from Oni. On a side note, this is the first time I saw Billy’s Bakery set up at Javits Center and I was so happy! They make some of my fave NY cupcakes ^_^
