Short MOCCA Report

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

MOCCA Art Fest was fun as usual, I debuted Dolltopia 2 and it had a very good response! I also presented the Lulu of the Year Award (congrats to winner Martina Fugazzotto) at the Lulu Awards which was fun and well attended. Great job Marion! I have a few pics from the event here:

Sorry, not too many photos were taken (by me anyay) but I got some cool new books! Goddess of War, Freddie and Me, and Chiggers were the big purchases I made and Ivy and The Hookah Girl are among the cool zines I got. Also, meeting Cecil Castellucci was a highlight. Also got to meet Rachel from Cupcakes Take the Cake and Whitney Matheson of Pop Candy fame, lots of cool bloggers about! I have a huge pile to read now!

The City Sweet Tooth!

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

I’m thrilled to announce my latest project - The City Sweet Tooth!
It’s a column in comic strip format that will feature profiles of New York City’s finest pastry shops, bakeries, cafes, and unique treats. One of the best things about living in New York is the availability of one of a kind (sometimes legendary) desserts and snacks. The column will cover places both new and old, famous and less well-known. Those who know me know I love New York and I love sweets, so this a dream project!
The strip is on The L Magazine’s website and a shorter version is in today’s issue of the print magazine available for free all over New York City. Just look for the little orange boxes with a letter L on on it, it’s “The Free Issue”.

You can also see the comic here at The L:

by the way: www.citysweettooth.com is under construction and on the way!

Update : Madeleine Patisserie has added a lot of new seating and table service!

Lulu Award Nominations!

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

I’ve been remiss in posting about this and it’s last minute, but May 14 is the cut-off for Lulu Award nominations!

Anyone can nominate just go here:

http://www.friends-lulu.org/awards08nomform.php

gURL Comix is a good contender for Lulu of the Year, they post loads of comics by female cartoonists including myself (2007 Lulu of the Year ^_^) and last year’s Kim Yale award winner Rachel Nabors.

Manic D Press is also a good choice, as is editor Jennifer Joseph for “Women of Distinction”. There are a lot of awesome ladies out there deserving of your votes!

Free comic book day!

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

Was a lot of fun. Matt had a signing at Rocketship and was mobbed by kids. I have a feeling Saltwater Taffy will be a big hit! Here is a cute pic of Matt I took. He’ll have more posted at his site soon I’m sure…mattfree08.jpg

Also here’s a fun pic of me with cupcakes at my bff Xtine’s wedding. Cupcakes!

Manga news! I’m adapting Gakuen Prince!

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Big news! I just got my first assignment adapting a manga translation! It’s for the upcoming Del Rey Manga release, Gakuen Prince by Jun Yuzuki. It promises to be funny and have pretty boys (like my fave manga The Wallflower), sounds just right for me!
