Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about Japan since I’ll be going there in November and visiting my cartoonist friend Yuuko Koyama. We have been pen pals since about 1996 and have collaborated on two comics together during my previous stays in Japan. We’ll be collaborating again this year and it made me want to dig up our old comics. Once I found them I thought it would be fun to post them in anticipation of our new mini-comic!

I just finished two new sweets paintings! One is another take on a cake slice painting that I’ve sold already. I’m planning to do a bunch of them in different color schemes. The cupcake is a new design based on the shape of cupcake that baked in Brooklyn makes. These are both 5 x 7 painted on boards with gouache and ink.

Marvel’s solicitation for my issue of Girl Comics (#3) has gone out! The artist on my story is Emma Vieceli, colors by Emily Warren. The story was fun to write, the art looks great, and it will hopefully deliver a chuckle or two. Fabulous cover is by Jo Chen!

Still ruminating on my recent trip to France, and lots more to come! I was in Angoulême for the comics festival and then Paris for just one day! Here is my comic about the sweets of Angoulême!
