Interdimensional Travel

I’ve been trying to catch up on my netflix queue and ended up with 2 movies in a row with interdimensional travel themes. I enjoyed both of them . First I saw the horror movie by Stuart Gordon, From Beyond. I enjoyed Re-Animator and I think this was a good follow up movie. I liked it way better than Bride of the Re-Animator anyway. It reminded me (thematically) a little of Hellraiser too since it featured a man (in this case a scientist) who is a pervert and wants to explore other dimensions for his personal pleasure. Of course, it all goes terribly awry and there is a lot of goo involved. I thought Jeffrey Combs, who plays the scientist’s ill-fated assistant and is really the star of the movie did a great job here. Fun, gross, and silly.

I also saw The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (for the 2nd time). I was able to follow the story a lot better this time. It is a really cool concept: genius scientist/ neurosurgeon / rock star / comic book hero fights interdimensionally traveling aliens along with his rock band (all geniuses in their own right) The Hong Kong Cavaliers. It’s a lot more complex than that, but I recommend it for a fun watch.

And then of course there are the latest, and most dashing travelers Dr. Who (David Tennant) and Captain Jack of Torchwood!
