True Colors Conference – great as usual!

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

The True Colors Conference was great and Tim and I had a blast running our “Adventures in Gay Comics” workshop. Very cool. The class was full and everybody had interesting questions and were totally engaged with the topic.
I hope this will be a regular thing for us as it’s so rewarding for everybody!

Too Much Too Late by Marc Spitz

Saturday, March 17th, 2007

I know, another Marc Spitz book. I must admit the cover designs of his books really grabbed my attention and the stories are great too. This one is about a middle-aged drummer whose high school band reforms and is catapulted into instant fame via a teenage blogger. It follows their rise and fall in the music industry. Just great. His music background as a Spin journalist really informs his writing and it’s all pretty  believeable considering how popular blogs and bloggers are now.

Need More Love by Aline Kominsky Crumb

Saturday, March 17th, 2007

I absoluteley adore this book! I’m definitely in the camp that is more of an Aline fan than an R. Crumb fan. This hefty book is loaded with amazing comics, paintings, photos, and autobiographical musings by Aline. I thought it was beautiful, fascinating, and juicy. Highly recommended.

Small Press Reading Marathon

Saturday, March 17th, 2007

I just got home from the Small Press Center event at Mo Pitkin’s which went great and was very well attended despite the snow storm. Yay for literature fans! I was the only graphic novelist in attendance and though I didn’t know anybody there I got a very good response. One kind attendee asked me if I was always so “joyful and rebellious” and I think that is a great description of my style. It was neat to try out my stuff with a new non-comic-specific crowd. There were 31 writers doing 5 minute readings so it was a real marathon!

Feature article in Metroline!

Sunday, March 4th, 2007

A feature on me and Tough Love ran in a February issue of Metroline, New England’s oldest gay & lesbian publication! They interviewed my dad for it too, very cool. Check it out!
