Last night was amazing! Just being on the stage with other creators and the very appreciative audience was an amazing experience. GMHC brought out a great crowd and it was one of the most crowded MOCCA events I’ve ever attended! The audience had some good questions and I was approached afterwards by some very sweet fans, even people who knew me from XY and were surprised to find out I’m a girl. Neat! Hopefully some pics will come up soon. It was also my first swag bag I ever got for doing a comics event. Star treatment sure feels nice after all the solitary work of making comics. I got these pics off of Howard Cruse’s blog. Check it out!
MoCCA and the GMHC team up to take a look back over the last 25 years at the HIV/AIDS pandemic through the eyes of comic and cartoon creators. Moderator Ken Gale and panelists – Chris Companik, Jennifer Camper, Howard Cruse, Abby Denson, and Allan Neuwirth – will discuss issues ranging from homophobia to HIV/AIDS to the comics community, all in the context of their personal lives, work and creations. A silent auction will be held at the event.
Mon. Oct. 23, event starts at 6:30pm
594 Broadway, Suite 401
Between Houston & Prince
The party went great and we had some yummy cupcakes from Billy’s Bakery and Trader Joe’s 3 buck Chuck to make it extra sweet. Matt was very well spoken when he made a speech and it was all in all a great success! Here are a few pics:
My interview on Tough Love ran in PW Comics Week today! It’s Publisher’s Weekly comic newsletter! Check it out!
Matt and I had a major blast at SPX. As you can see here, he was acting silly and making new fans at the Oni Press booth. He sold out of all the Sidescrollers copies they brought! I sold most of my books too which is a good thing because we had to schlep home on the bus. We must arrange a ride next year. Our bus driver was psycho!
Anyway, it was great seeing all the other comix folks and I even got to present an Ignatz award which was very cool. The new location at the Marriot was nice and there were loads of drink tickets to be had at the parties. All in all a great con experience. Here are some pics!
Come on out and get Sidescrollers signed by Oni Press‘s newest comic star Matthew Loux! It’s at Book Court, a very cool bookstore in the Downtown Brooklyn/Cobble Hill area.
Book Court 163 Court St. between Pacific and Dean St.
nearest to the 4/5 Borough Hall station or the F/G Bergen St. station.
This event was listed as a “Best Bet” in this week’s Brooklyn 24/7 Magazine! Come and see what the fuss is all about!
In honor of NATIONAL COMING OUT DAY (OCT. 11th) , Tough Love (and all of Manic D’s amazing GLBT titles) are on sale at manicdpress.com for $10 each + free shipping! One week only through Oct. 15th! This is a great chance to pick up Tough Love for cheaper and a great time to get a copy for a family member or friend who is coming out or thinking about it. Also, it makes a great donation to your local GLBT Youth Center or library. This is also a good chance to check out Manic D’s other great titles. My personal fave is Alvin Orloff‘s I Married An Earthling.

I had a crazy comix-filled weekend and it was a blast! Last night Matt and I exhibited our comics at the awesome Punk and Independent Comics show at Bowery Poetry Club. We got to sell comix, meet new people, see old friends, and experience some rock and roll! Check out these pics!
We got to see the always awesome World War IX and The Shades whose lamp shade gimmick was hilarious!
Then today I checked out Manganext in NJ. I got to be on several panels and met lots of cool folks. it’s neat seeing how manga fandom is growing and evolving. It’s also just exciting that manga has it’s own convention here! A highlight was meeting the ladies of DramaQueen, a publisher that’s bringing over some cool yaoi manga as well as some really neat Manwha (Korean comics) I really enjoyed the one called DVD by Kye Young Chon. It’s just got a really interesting, funny, story and art style. Plus a punk boy character. Yeah!
