Friday, July 21st, 2006

I’m getting the last details ready for my trip. Sketchbook? Check! Airborne? Check! Travel book on the Pacific Northwest? Check! Also, plenty of socks and panties.

Philly fun!

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

Lauren Weinstein and I had a total blast in philly last Saturday! We took the bus down to Philly to sign our comics at The Marvelous. It’s a very cool store that has a huge selection of used records and comics too!

I got to meet up with cartoonist Shane Durgee and lots of young readers!

Then I met up with my band, The Saturday Night Things at Club 218 where we proceeded to rock our hearts out with The Jukebox Zeros and La Resistance!

Blog

Monday, July 17th, 2006

Welcome to my blog! I’ll chiefly be using this to share my art and experiences. Especially my tour experiences this summer with the Summer of Tough Love Tour! I’ll be doing a bit of retroactive blogging here first since a bunch of this stuff happened in June so here we go!

June 23, Booksigning at Barnes and Noble Chelsea with Tim Fish
B&NB&N tableSigning
Well, what can I say about this? It was like a dream come true to do my first Barnes and Noble signing right in New York City! That very same day a nice article about Tough Love appeared in The Metro! Talk about a great day! I did a slide show reading select segments of the book and Tim did more of a lecture on his work. He had three different books for sale. He sure is prolific! We had a nice crowd and it was a total success. The best was seeing my friends and family. Then we retired to Otto’s Shrunken Head for the rock n’ roll afterparty! My band, The Saturday Night Things, played with S.M.U.T., SpoilSport, Dame Darcy, and Uncle Rat. Of course I can’t forget the DJ stylings of Cletus Van Damme! We had a total ball! Possibly the best day of my life…so far. The Beat reported on it nicely here:

June 17, Booksigning at Librairie Millenium in Montreal

This was really fun. It was my first book signing on the tour and just being in Montreal for the first time was amazing! My best friend Christine came along and thank goodness for her French language knowledge and knowledge of the city too! I absolutely couldn’t have done it without my amazingly well-traveled friend James Brown. He kindly hosted us and helped us along the whole way. The folks at Librairie Millenium were great, this is the best English comic store in the city, no doubt! JB and Brodie gave me and my entourage the royal treatment and also put together an excellent window display of my books. I almost passed out when I first saw it! There is something really special about seeing your books displayed in a window. Especially in a foreign city.

Local cartoonists Rick Trembles and Salgood Sam were major helps when it came to planning my trip and deserve some major kudos!
The morning of the signing we had breakfast at a hip place called Le Avenue and I couldn’t help but notice the cool menu with great cartoon illustrations so we posed with it.

Rick Trembles came to the signing and so did Richard Gagnon, who it turned out, illustrated that very same menu!

It’s a small world, kids! Richard later took Christine and I out for some Karaoke. Woo-hoo! Of course, we couldn’t go to Montreal without eating poutine. Well I had it and liked it. Though I could probably enjoy it just as well without the cheese curd part. Fries and gravy. Mmmm. Another delicious thing we had in Montreal was tofu ice cream from Le Patio Bar Latier, a really good ice cream parlor on Mont Royal St. It was just a short weekend trip, but we did manage to check out Chinatown and Old Montreal. All in all a fun time!

June 13 Tough Love is released!

A very exciting day because:
1) The book is finally out!
2)The Saturday Night Things are on Joe Belock’s Three Chord Monty show on my fave radio station. WFMU!
3)I run an e-mail and radio promotion encouraging everybody to buy Tough Love today! It results in some very nice Amazon rankings!
#70 Graphic Novel!
#70 Graphic N0vel!
#22 in Gay Books!
Amazon gay book ranking
It’s great to make the top 100!
